This first-generation (non-A1) Steyr Mannlicher M40 is an Austrian-made, striker-fired .40 S&W pistol that retains the early smooth dustcover with no accessory rail and the frame-mounted S/F manual safety. It features Steyr's distinctive factory trapezoid rear and triangular white-tipped front sights, and the barrel hood carries Austrian proof marks with a VDD code. It includes two 12-round steel magazines and remains in very good overall condition.

This M40 represents the early M series configuration with the smooth dustcover and no accessory rail. It retains the frame-mounted S/F manual safety lever above the trigger along with a trigger safety blade. The action is striker-fired with a short-recoil, tilting-barrel system and Steyr's Reset Action pivoting trigger.
Factory sights consist of a fixed trapezoid rear with white outlines paired to a triangular white-tipped front. The pistol wears a black finish over a black polymer frame, consistent with the first-generation Steyr M-series design language.
Chambered in .40 S&W with a 4-inch barrel, this model has a 12+1 capacity. Two original 12-round steel magazines are included, each marked .40 S&W and fitted with witness holes.
The barrel hood is roll-marked 40 S&W and shows Austrian proof marks with a VDD code, aligning with its Austrian manufacture. Serial number markings are present on the slide and the bottom of the grip.
