It is German-made and marked accordingly, with DE and CIP N proofs and an HKI Columbus, GA import mark. The pistol measures approximately 9.65 inches in overall length and weighs about 2.66 pounds with an empty magazine.
The extended 6-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged with polygonal rifling, threaded at the muzzle, and equipped with a replaceable O-ring for consistent lockup. The short-recoil, DA/SA operating system is built around reliability, with steel slide construction and HK's corrosion-resistant carbonitride "Hostile Environment" treatment on the metal parts.
Controls are designed for confident operation: an ambidextrous manual safety, a decocking lever, and an ambidextrous paddle-style magazine release. HK's published trigger pulls for the Mark 23 are approximately 12.13 lb in double-action and 4.85 lb in single-action. Internal safeties include a firing pin block, hammer intercept notch, and disconnector.
High-profile 3-dot iron sights provide a clear sight picture, with a rear unit adjustable for both windage and elevation and a tall front blade. The sight radius is 7.76 inches. The frame is glass-fiber-reinforced polymer with steel inserts and features HK Universal Mounting Grooves on the dustcover. Capacity is 12+1 rounds of .45 ACP.
