The Model 85’s stainless steel frame, cylinder, and 2-inch barrel provide a uniform stainless finish and corrosion resistance. The barrel has a partial shroud, and the ejector rod features a knurled tip for positive operation.
Its five-shot fluted cylinder and round-butt grip frame make for a compact profile. The revolver uses a double-action/single-action system with a smooth trigger and an exposed spur hammer.
Sighting is straightforward and robust: a serrated ramp front sight and a fixed square-notch rear sight cut into a serrated topstrap to reduce glare.
Factory stocks are checkered hardwood with gold Taurus medallions, matching the revolver’s classic snub-nose style. Markings include the Taurus circular logo with BRASIL, Made in Brazil, and TAURUS INT. MFG. MIAMI, FLA – USA import stamp.
Assembly/yoke markings observed are "45" and "6042."
