The 16-inch 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel is Armornite treated and threaded 1/2x28, capped with an A2 birdcage flash suppressor. The 1:9 twist is set up for common 5.56 NATO loads. A carbine-length gas system keeps the package compact and familiar in handling.
Sight configuration is classic and practical: a pinned A2 front sight base with sling swivel and lug, paired with a detachable A2-style rear aperture sight. The flat-top upper provides a T-marked Picatinny rail, and both forward assist and an ejection port dust cover are present.
The aluminum handguard is a factory S&W-marked, carbine-length drop-in quad-rail, giving durable, all-metal rail space for accessories. This aluminum handguard adds rigidity and mounting flexibility while maintaining the standard carbine profile.
Furniture includes a 6-position, collapsible M4-style stock with an S&W medallion and an A2 pistol grip. The receiver set is aluminum alloy with a hard-coat anodized finish, and markings include "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MA MADE IN U.S.A." and "MODEL M&P-15." The upper receiver shows an "A" forging mark. Capacity is 30+1, and two Magpul PMAGs are included.
