Product Description

Armalite AR-180 Sterling England 5.56 NATO Pre-Ban Semi-Auto Rifle, 18" Barrel, Folding Metal Stock

This Sterling England–produced Armalite AR-180 is a pre-ban 5.56 NATO semi-automatic rifle from the 1979–1985 production era. It features the stamped/spot-welded receiver construction associated with Sterling manufacture, a short-stroke gas piston system, and a folding metal stock with ribbed metal buttplate. The receiver carries the correct "MFG ARMALITE, INC., COSTA MESA, CALIF. U.S.A. BY STERLING ENGLAND." marking and British proof marks.

    What's Included

    • Armalite AR-180 Sterling England 5.56mm NATO semi-automatic rifle
    • 1x 40-round AR-180-pattern steel magazine with side locking notch

Sterling England production places this AR-180 squarely in the 1979–1985 era, with receiver markings "MFG ARMALITE, INC., COSTA MESA, CALIF. U.S.A. BY STERLING ENGLAND." and British proofs (crown over BNP, .223, 17.5 TONS). The S-prefix serial aligns with the documented Sterling block, confirming its period and importer context. This example was imported prior to the 1989 ban.

The rifle uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system paired with a stamped/spot-welded steel receiver. It has an 18" barrel capped by a three-prong flash suppressor. A left-side, reciprocating charging handle and a right-side ejection port with dust cover round out the core operating features.

Furniture includes a folding metal stock with a ribbed metal buttplate, plus a black polymer pistol grip with internal storage and a ribbed polymer handguard. The length of pull measures 14.0 inches. The front sight base has protective ears and an integral front sling loop, while sighting is handled by a protected front post and a rear drum/aperture assembly.

The included 40-round AR-180-pattern steel magazine with a side locking notch yields a 40+1 capacity. The rifle retains the AR-180 pattern controls and manual safety. This configuration reflects the hallmark features of Sterling-made AR-180 rifles from the United Kingdom.
