This is the first-generation M&P 9 Shield with the Manual Thumb Safety submodel. It is built around a 3.1 in barrel and a slim 0.95 in width, and it ships with both 7-round and 8-round factory single-stack magazines for flexible carry and capacity options.
The slide and barrel are stainless steel with a black Armornite/Melonite treatment, and the barrel is nitrided. The black polymer frame incorporates an internal stainless-steel chassis for rigidity. It is a striker-fired design with S&W’s hinged trigger.
Controls and features include a manual thumb safety and a trigger safety. The slide uses rear serrations and an external extractor. Sights are 3-dot and dovetailed: a white-dot front blade and a rear notch for a clear, service-style sight picture.
Markings include a barrel hood stamped '9MM' and the factory warning 'CAUTION-CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED.' The serial number is located on the frame insert. This pistol is made in the United States and finished in black.
