The 887 Nitro Mag uses a pump-action system with an 870-style single locking block that cams upward into the barrel extension and a tubular magazine under the barrel. It is configured for a 2+1 capacity. The shotgun’s receiver is steel and is encased, along with the barrel, in Remington’s ArmorLokt overmold.
The 28 inch barrel is cold hammer forged with a vent rib and is threaded for Rem Choke tubes. A Modified Rem Choke is installed. The front sight is a green fiber-optic bead for quick indexing on the rib.
Its 3 1/2" chamber accepts 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2" shells, offering flexibility across common 12 gauge loads. The barrel uses the Rem Choke thread pattern for easy choke changes.
The shotgun is finished in black with a black synthetic stock and a ribbed synthetic forend. Length of pull is 14.0 inches. The overall layout is straightforward and built for practical use.
The Model 887 Nitro Mag was discontinued in 2015. Remington issued a voluntary safety recall for some Model 887 shotguns manufactured between December 1, 2013 and November 24, 2014; buyers can verify any recall applicability with Remington using the shotgun’s serial information.
