This 642-2 is the Centennial variant of the J-Frame with a double-action-only trigger and an enclosed hammer. It uses a five-shot fluted cylinder and a 1.88 in barrel, with an overall length of approximately 6.31 in.
Construction pairs a stainless steel barrel and stainless cylinder with a matte silver aluminum alloy frame. The ejector rod is shrouded, and the yoke cut is marked with the model stamping "642-2."
The revolver is rated for continuous +P use in .38 Special. Sights are fixed, with an integral serrated ramp front and a fixed rear groove.
Factory black synthetic boot grips with S&W medallions complement the matte silver finish. This U.S.-made J-Frame includes an internal lock and is finished uniformly in matte silver across the frame and cylinder.
