The Model 60-4 Chief's Special Target pairs a compact J-frame with a factory 3-inch heavy barrel and full-length underlug, a configuration produced only in the early 1990s. The serrated top rib reduces glare, and the 5-shot fluted cylinder keeps the classic J-frame profile.
Target-focused features include a pinned serrated ramp front sight and an S&W micrometer adjustable rear sight, plus a wide, checkered target hammer spur and a smooth, narrow trigger. The action is double-action/single-action.
Construction is all stainless steel with a satin/brushed finish across the frame, cylinder, and barrel. The barrel is rollmarked ".38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG," and the frame bears the S&W Springfield, Mass. rollmark, aligning with the model’s U.S. manufacture.
This example is fitted with an aftermarket one-piece black rubber finger-groove grip, and it also includes a one-piece finger-groove wood grip. The original S&W blue cardboard box retains its end label noting Model 60, .38 Special, 3" barrel, and Product Code 102298 (mfg part number 102298).
