The XM15-E2S is built on aluminum alloy receivers with a manual safety and semi-automatic, direct impingement operation. It was manufactured in the USA and accepts standard STANAG-pattern magazines with a stated capacity of 30+1.
The 16-inch barrel is crowned and configured as a carbine. The gas block includes a fixed sling loop and has no front sight, and the muzzle is plain with no device installed.
Furniture includes a collapsible 6-position stock and an A2-style pistol grip. The round, knurled free-float aluminum handguard provides a solid, heat-resistant gripping surface around the barrel.
There are no sights installed. A raised accessory/riser rail spans the upper receiver, and the rifle is listed as having a scope mount and accessory rail capability. The lower is marked with the Windham, ME B.F.I. rollmark, and the receiver is marked ".223–5.56MM."
