The AR-556 platform here is the catalog Model 8500 standard configuration, built around a carbine-length gas system and a flat-top upper receiver with an integral Picatinny rail. The upper is equipped with a forward assist, ejection-port cover, and brass deflector, and uses a knurled delta ring for the two-piece handguard.
The 16-inch barrel is 4140 chrome-moly steel, cold hammer-forged for durability and consistency. It uses a 1:8 RH twist to stabilize a wide range of 5.56mm projectiles and is threaded 1/2x28 with an installed A2 flash suppressor.
Sighting equipment includes an F-height A-frame front sight base and a Ruger Rapid Deploy folding rear aperture sight, giving a solid iron-sight setup out of the box. The handguard is a two-piece ribbed polymer unit in carbine length.
Furniture and controls follow the familiar AR pattern: a six-position collapsible stock with a 13.75-inch length of pull, an A2-style pistol grip, and a manual safety. The rifle is compatible with STANAG-pattern magazines and has a 30+1 capacity. Markings include the Ruger phoenix crest and a RUGER MAYODAN, NC USA rollmark, matching its 2015 North Carolina manufacture.
