This M&P15-22 SPORT runs a blowback action and retains familiar AR-15 style controls, including a left-side bolt catch, right-side push-button magazine release, and a manual 2-position safety selector. The receiver is polymer with a black finish and is marked 'MODEL M&P15-22' and 'CALIBER 22 LR' along with the Smith & Wesson crest and 'SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MA MADE IN U.S.A.'
The 16.5 in carbon steel barrel is threaded at the muzzle, and the rifle uses a slim polymer M-LOK handguard. A continuous 12-o'clock Picatinny rail bridges the receiver and handguard, providing a straightforward mounting surface for sights and accessories. A brass deflector is present; there is no ejection-port dust cover or forward assist.
Factory Magpul MBUS flip-up front and rear sights are installed for immediate use. The top rail and included M-LOK-mounted sling loop/hand-stop accessory add practical options on the handguard as needed.
Furniture includes a six-position collapsible stock with a rear sling loop and an A2-style polymer pistol grip. Capacity is 25+1 with the included magazines, and length of pull is listed at 11.0.
