Sighting is straightforward and precise with an adjustable square-notch rear and a ramped front sight featuring a red/orange insert. A serrated rib and a smooth, matte topstrap help reduce glare along the sighting plane.
Controls include a smooth-faced trigger for consistent DA pulls and an exposed hammer with a wide, checkered spur for confident SA cocking. The checkered teardrop-style cylinder latch provides a positive grasp. The revolver operates in double-action/single-action and incorporates an internal frame lock.
Markings and details include yoke cut marked "686-6," barrel rollmarks "S&W .357 MAGNUM" and "SMITH & WESSON," and the S&W trade-mark crest on the right sideplate with "MADE IN U.S.A. MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS." The stainless frame, cylinder, and barrel share a uniform satin stainless finish.
