The Ruger-57 uses Ruger’s single-action Secure Action fire control with a protected internal hammer and delayed-blowback operation. Controls include an ambidextrous thumb safety, a bladed trigger safety, a neutrally balanced sear, an internal hammer catch, and a left-side magazine release. Capacity is 20+1, and the pistol will fire with the magazine removed (no magazine disconnect).
Construction highlights include a 4.94 in alloy-steel barrel with a black nitride finish and a through-hardened billet alloy-steel slide with a black-oxide finish. The slide has front and rear serrations, a top lightening cut, and is drilled and tapped for optics. Sights are a green fiber-optic front paired with a fully adjustable rear (square-notch with windage and elevation screws).
The frame is glass-filled nylon with textured polymer grips bearing Ruger phoenix logos. An integral multi-slot Picatinny-style accessory rail is molded into the dust cover for mounting compatible accessories. Rifling is 8-groove with a 1:9 RH twist.
