The DS-II is the stainless, small-frame successor to the Detective Special, using Colt’s SF-VI action. This example is a six-shot .38 Special with a compact 2-inch barrel, delivering classic Colt double-action/single-action operation with a transfer bar safety system.
Construction is all stainless steel, including the frame, barrel, and fluted cylinder, with a brushed stainless finish for a clean, durable appearance. The barrel features a solid rib, partial underlug, and an ejector-rod shroud.
Sights are fixed: a ramped front sight paired with a milled topstrap groove rear notch for a low-profile, snag-resistant setup. The revolver wears black checkered rubber grips with the Colt logo on a round-butt frame for a secure hold.
Controls and handling are straightforward, with a smooth trigger and an exposed hammer with a serrated spur. Factory markings include "COLT .38 DS-II" and ".38 SPECIAL CTG." on the barrel and the Rampant Colt logo on the frame. The factory box end label confirms model SD1020: Colt 38 DS-II, .38 Special, 2-inch, stainless steel.
