The Combat Elite pairs a polished blued slide with a matte stainless frame for a distinctive factory two-tone look. As a full-size Government Model, it uses a 5-inch barrel and a 7+1 capacity in .45 ACP, with the classic single-action 1911 operating system.
Features include the Series 80 firing-pin safety, a lowered and flared ejection port, and rear cocking serrations only. It retains original-era 1911 components such as the GI short guide rod and plug, arched mainspring housing, and a standard short-tang grip safety (non-beavertail).
The sighting system is a 3-dot setup with a square-notch adjustable rear carrying two green dots and a front blade with a matching green dot. The trigger is a short, solid style, and the hammer is a serrated spur type. Manual thumb and grip safeties round out the controls.
Grips are smooth, ivory-colored panels with Colt medallions, complementing the two-tone finish. Slide markings include the star-flanked "COMBAT ELITE" on the right side and "COLT MK IV" over "SERIES 80" on the left, matching original Combat Elite rollmarks. Production falls within the late 1980s–early 1990s (approximately 1987–1991).
