The IWI Carmel is a recent-release 5.56mm NATO, short-stroke gas piston rifle built around a 16 inch cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floated barrel with a 1/2x28 threaded muzzle. It features a two-position gas regulator labeled R/S for regular or suppressed use, fully ambidextrous controls, and a side-folding, 6-position telescoping stock with a fixed comb. This example includes a multi-port muzzle brake and accepts STANAG/AR-15 magazines.

The Carmel uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system. Its 16 inch barrel is cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floated, and threaded 1/2x28 with a multi-port brake installed. The 1:7 twist supports common 5.56×45 NATO projectile lengths and weights.
An adjustable two-position gas regulator, labeled R/S, allows setting the system for regular or suppressed operation. Right-side ejection is paired with a low-profile, reversible, non-reciprocating side charging handle.
Controls are fully ambidextrous, including a paddle-style magazine release and a manual safety. The rifle is compatible with STANAG/AR-15 pattern magazines and ships with one 20-round PMAG. Stated capacity is 20+1.
The polymer free-float M-LOK handguard provides accessory mounting at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, while a continuous 12 o’clock Picatinny top rail spans the receiver and handguard. The stock is side-folding and 6-position telescoping with a fixed comb; length of pull is approximately 11–14.5 inches. A Magpul pistol grip is installed.
The receiver is polymer with steel and aluminum reinforcements. Markings include IWI – ISRAEL and IWI US – Middletown, PA. Country of origin is Israel, and MSRP is listed at 1799.00.
