Product Description

Savage Arms Model 420 12 Gauge Over/Under, 30 Inch Barrels, Pre-WWII, Factory Engraved, Extractor System, Double Triggers

This pre-WWII Savage Arms Model 420 is an American-made 12-gauge over/under produced during the model's short run circa 1937–1943. It features 30-inch steel barrels with a solid matted top rib, a factory-engraved receiver with light scrollwork, and a classic double-trigger, extractor-only configuration. Utica, New York rollmarks and PROOF TESTED markings are present, and a Jostam Anti-Flinch recoil pad has been installed. Chambers are 2 3/4 inches, with a 14.0-inch length of pull.

    Condition

    Overall Condition: Poor condition.

Bore Condition: Poor - Noticeable dirt, stains, significant corrosion or damage.

Specific Condition Notes: The action struggles to close and also struggles to open. The locking lug is well past the 6 o'clock position and will require restorative work to restore function. There is widespread rust and pitting, along with widespread scratching and blemishing to the bluing and the wood furniture.

    What’s Included
    • Savage Arms Model 420 12 Gauge over/under shotgun
    • Installed Jostam Anti-Flinch recoil pad (aftermarket)

Made in the United States and marked with Utica, New York rollmarks, this Model 420 represents Savage's prewar over/under production, a line built for only a few years before World War II. The receiver carries light factory scroll engraving and is marked PROOF TESTED, underscoring the period-correct manufacturing details.

The shotgun is the plain-grade Model 420 configuration with double triggers and an extractor (non-ejector) system. Its 30-inch steel barrels are topped by a solid, matted rib and a single front bead, a straightforward field-ready layout from the era.

Furniture consists of a walnut pistol-grip stock and a beavertail fore-end with checkering, paired with a blued steel frame and receiver. The factory light scroll engraving adds a touch of period style without departing from the model's utilitarian roots.

Chambers are 2 3/4 inches, and the length of pull measures 14.0 inches. An aftermarket Jostam Anti-Flinch recoil pad has been installed, reflecting a period-appropriate accessory choice often seen on shotguns of this vintage.
