The M&P12's bullpup layout places the action behind the grip, yielding an overall length of approximately 27.8 in while retaining a 19.5 in barrel. The polymer chassis and furniture feature molded texturing and a pistol-style grip with interchangeable backstraps. Length of pull is set at 14.5 in for a consistent shoulder mount.
Its dual, selectable magazine tubes deliver a total capacity of 12 rounds and are controlled by a push-button selector. Loading and unloading are managed from the bottom of the gun, and downward ejection keeps fired shells directed away from the face.
The 4140 CMV steel barrel is threaded for Rem Choke–pattern tubes and accepts interchangeable choke tubes to tailor shot patterns. The chamber is cut for 3 in 12-gauge shells, expanding load options for different roles.
Controls include an ambidextrous safety selector, an action lock lever, a magazine-tube selector, and load/unload assist buttons. A full-length top Picatinny rail and an M-LOK fore-end with slots at 3/6/9 o'clock support accessory mounting. Additional touches include a rear QD sling socket and construction in the United States.
