The AR-556 platform here uses Ruger’s direct-impingement, semi-automatic action with a carbine-length gas system. The A2-style fixed front sight base is the correct F-height and is pinned. A Ruger Rapid Deploy folding rear sight provides a co-witness-capable iron sight setup on the flat-top upper receiver’s Picatinny rail.
The 16.1-inch barrel is 4140 chrome-moly steel, cold hammer-forged, and medium contour for durability. Its 1/2x28 threads are fitted with an A2-type flash suppressor, and the 1:8 RH twist is suitable for common 5.56mm bullet lengths. Handguards are the classic heat-shielded, two-piece M4-style polymer design secured with a delta ring.
Receivers are forged 7075-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard-coat anodized finish. The bolt is 9310 steel that is shot-peened and proof-tested. The lower is equipped with a 6-position collapsible stock and a manual safety. Capacity is 30+1 with 5.56 NATO.
Factory details include the Mayodan, North Carolina receiver rollmark and Ruger’s Model 8500 configuration. Added value is the CVLIFE multi-reticle reflex red dot mounted on the upper flat-top Picatinny rail and a CVLIFE bipod installed, along with four 30-round PMAGs, a soft case, and the original manual.
