The Variant 1 configuration provides a left-side safety and decocker paired with a DA/SA trigger, complemented by an external spurred hammer. The 4.25-inch barrel is cold-hammer-forged with polygonal rifling, and the pistol operates on a short-recoil, modified Browning-type tilting barrel system. This USP is configured as a full-size model with a 10+1 capacity in 9mm Luger.
Sighting equipment includes dovetailed 3-dot front and rear sights. The frame features USP-specific accessory mounting grooves on the dustcover.
The slide wears HK's Hostile Environment nitrocarburized finish. German proof and origin markings include CIP N nitro proof, the Ulm antler, DE country code, HK date code BK, and HKI – Columbus GA import mark, confirming German manufacture and import lineage.
