As a pre-model S&W Terrier, this revolver predates model-number rollmarks and has no model designation in the yoke cut. It is a five-shot, double-action/single-action design on the compact I-frame, made during 1950–1952, and represents the small-frame .38 S&W Terrier series of the era.
The revolver is built with carbon steel components and a uniform blued finish, complemented by a color casehardened hammer with a checkered spur and a smooth, color casehardened trigger. It retains the standard S&W cylinder-release thumbpiece.
Sights are fixed and period-correct: a half-moon blade up front and a rear notch milled into the topstrap. The 2-inch barrel and micro-size frame deliver the compact Terrier profile associated with this series.
Markings include "MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS." on the frame, "SMITH & WESSON" on the right side of the barrel, and "38 S.&W. CTG." on the left side of the barrel. The aftermarket black checkered synthetic wraparound/monogrip is non-medallion, encloses the grip frame, and caps the butt with a continuous base featuring a center seam.
