The 870 Express Magnum platform uses a carbon-steel receiver with right-side ejection, dual action bars, and a cross-bolt safety. This example retains the matte black oxide finish typical of the Express series and is marked as a Magnum receiver, denoted by the "M" serial suffix.
The 18.5 in carbon-steel barrel is a ventilated-rib field tube with a true cylinder bore (Cyl Bore) for wide, even patterns. The chamber is marked "12 GA. 2 3/4 or 3" and accepts both 2 3/4 in and 3 in shells. A fiber-optic twin-dot front bead on the rib provides a bright, easy-to-pick-up sight picture.
Furniture is synthetic throughout, including a molded fore-end with grasping surfaces and an Advanced Technology, Inc. adjustable 6-position M4-style stock with pistol grip. The setup provides an 11.0 in length of pull and includes a slip-on rubber recoil pad for added shoulder interface.
On-gun ammunition management comes from a TacStar receiver-mounted SideSaddle that carries six 12-gauge shells. Capacity is 4+1 with 2 3/4 in shells or 3+1 with 3 in shells, supporting both field and defensive loading configurations.
