The sub-compact XD-40 is built around a 3-inch, hammer-forged, Melonite-treated barrel with a fully supported feed ramp and a forged steel slide finished in Melonite. A captive recoil spring assembly supports reliable function in the short slide format.
Controls and safeguards include a striker-fired, single-action system, ambidextrous magazine release, integral trigger safety tab, grip safety, and an internal striker block. A loaded chamber indicator on the slide and a striker status indicator provide immediate visual/tactile status cues.
Sight regulation comes from fixed, dovetailed steel three-dot sights. The black polymer frame with molded SA-XD panels includes an accessory/light rail with one slot for mounting compatible lights or accessories.
Dimensions and carry specs are compact and practical: approximately 6.25 inches in overall length, about 4.75 inches in height, and around 26 ounces in weight. Capacity is 10+1 with .40 S&W.
