Built on the stainless N-frame, this 627-5 pairs a matte stainless (glass-bead) finish with a compact 2.625-inch barrel. The unfluted 8-shot stainless cylinder and slab-sided barrel shroud give it a distinctive PC profile, with the shroud laser-etched "357 Mag 8x" and "Performance Center" marking, plus a PC medallion on the frame.
The revolver uses a double-action/single-action system with a smooth-faced trigger and an exposed, checkered-spur hammer that is chrome-flashed. A ball-detent yoke lockup and an internal key lock positioned above the cylinder latch are included.
Sight alignment is handled by a dovetailed ramp front sight with an orange/red insert and an adjustable square-notch rear sight. The ejector rod is fully shrouded under the slab-sided barrel shroud.
Ergonomics are set by round-butt wood grips featuring finger grooves, textured/stippled panels, and S&W medallions. The matte stainless finish is applied consistently across the frame, cylinder, and receiver.
Identified as Model 627-5 within the Performance Center series and commonly tied to MFG part number 170133, this U.S.-made revolver is often referred to as the "UDR" (Ultimate Defensive Revolver) by enthusiasts.
