The 509 Compact MRD is a striker-fired 9mm configured without a manual safety and equipped with a standard trigger. Per FN, it operates in a double-action striker-fired format. Its compact size pairs a 3.7 in barrel with a 6.75 in overall length and a 1.35 in width, offering a balance of concealability and control.
FN's Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System provides a multi-footprint plate interface on the optics-cut slide, and this pistol includes the factory plates and mounting hardware. Dovetailed all-black iron sights are installed front and rear.
Ergonomics and control features include ambidextrous slide stop levers, interchangeable backstraps, and a polymer frame in black. A Picatinny/MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail on the dustcover supports common lights or accessories.
The pistol comes with one compact 12-round magazine and one extended 15-round magazine with grip sleeve, and it accepts higher-capacity FN 509 magazines with appropriate sleeves. The barrel uses 1:10 in right-hand rifling, and the unloaded weight is approximately 25.5 oz.
Made in the United States, the frame is marked FN COLUMBIA, SC USA. The slide and frame are finished in black, with dovetailed front blade and rear notch sights.
