The P5 Compact uses a DA/SA, short-recoil, locked-breech system derived from the P38, paired with an external spurred hammer. A frame-mounted control serves as both the slide stop and decocker. The pistol features a heel-type magazine catch and a single-column 8+1 capacity, optimized for its compact 3.1-inch barrel format.
Notable external features include a left-side ejection port, rear slide serrations, and an anti-glare serrated slide top. Sighting is via fixed iron sights with a single white-dot front blade and a fixed square-notch rear, providing a simple, clear sight picture.
Construction is a steel slide over an aluminum-alloy frame finished in a gray/graphite tone, giving a durable two-tone appearance. The grips are black, checkered synthetic panels that offer a secure hold without adding bulk.
