The EXP556 Mk II uses a short-stroke gas piston and a bufferless recoil system housed entirely in the upper, removing the need for an external buffer tube. The 8.25 inch barrel is capped with a compact two-port muzzle brake, and a low-profile gas block keeps the system streamlined.
Construction centers on a lightweight polymer receiver and a polymer cylindrical handguard with waffle texturing for a secure grasp. Controls include a charging handle and a manual safety. The pistol is equipped with a B5 Systems pistol grip.
Fixed polymer sights include a front blade and a rear ghost-ring aperture. A continuous top Picatinny rail runs across the receiver and forend, and the receiver features a rear 1913 Picatinny rail/end cap for additional mounting options.
Chambered in 5.56mm NATO with a 30+1 capacity, this model accepts AR-15/STANAG pattern magazines. It is manufactured in the USA, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
