The ZF-56 uses Zenith's MRDS roller-delayed design with no gas system, delivering the classic delayed-blowback operating principle in a modern 5.56x45mm platform. The upper and lower are machined from billet aluminum and incorporate bolted steel guide rails and a steel trunnion for strength. Receiver markings read "ZENITH FIREARMS AFTON, VA | USA" alongside a U.S. flag, and a caliber window in the handguard displays "5.56x45mm."
Controls and ergonomics are thoroughly modern. The rifle includes ambidextrous safety/selector, bolt release, and magazine release, plus a forward, latchable HK-style charging handle with a steel notch plate that can be swapped left or right. It accepts AR-15/STANAG magazines and ships with a 30-round magazine, providing a 30+1 capacity.
The 16-inch barrel is free-floated and threaded 1/2x28, ready for standard muzzle devices. Up top, a full-length 12-o'clock Picatinny rail spans the receiver and handguard, while the aluminum M-LOK handguard integrates QD sling sockets for flexible mounting and carry options.
Furniture and upgrades add further appeal. The adjustable, side-folding polymer stock (stock body marked "HDF r3") provides a 12.5-inch length of pull, and the pistol grip carries a DC logo.
