Product Description

Charles Daly Fine Damascus 10 Gauge SxS, H.A. Lindner-Built (Suhl, 1885–1887), 30-inch Damascus Barrels, External Hammers, Factory Engraved

This antique Charles Daly Fine Damascus side-by-side 10 gauge was built in Suhl, Prussia by H.A. Lindner circa 1885–1887. It carries 30-inch Damascus barrels with a narrow raised game rib and rib extension, factory scroll engraving, and matching serial numbers across the action, barrels, trigger-guard tang, and forend. Evaluated by Turnbull Restoration, it shows tight barrel-to-action fit with Full/Full chokes and presents as a well-kept, little-used example.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Excellent condition, showing only faint signs of any prior use or handling.

Bore Overall Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Specific Condition Notes: The shotgun is in fantastic shape for its age. Barrel fit to the action is solid, with meaningful life remaining in the locking mechanism. The configuration appears original throughout. The walnut buttstock shows only minor scuffs and light wear.

    What’s Included
    • Charles Daly Fine Damascus 10 Gauge side-by-side shotgun

Built in Suhl and attributed to H.A. Lindner, this gun shows the Lindner crossed-pistols control mark stamped twice on the barrel undersides. It sits in one of the earliest serial ranges associated with the beginning of Lindner builds for Charles Daly. The absence of later German proof stamps aligns with its 1885–1887 era. Based on Damascus quality and engraving execution, it likely corresponds to the Grade 60/Model 60 level that precedes the later cataloged models.

The 30-inch Damascus barrels feature a narrow raised game rib with rib extension and a brass front bead. The rib is inscribed "CHARLES DALY FINE DAMASCUS." It is an extractor-only (non-ejector) configuration with a top-lever opening system. Per expert evaluation, the chokes measure Full/Full.

This is an external-hammer sidelock with double triggers. The walnut furniture includes a splinter forend with an Anson-style push-button latch and horn forend tip, plus a checkered wrist and forend. The rounded pistol-grip buttstock ends in a steel checkered buttplate and carries a silver initial escutcheon.

Factory engraving includes fine scroll and border work on the fences and lockplates. Turnbull Restoration noted that the barrels remain tight to the breech and that observable wear suggests very little actual firing. They also observed misaligned screws, indicating the gun has been opened in the past. Length of pull is 14.25 inches, and matching serial numbers are present on the action, barrels, trigger-guard tang, and forend.
