The Model 45 uses a straight blowback, semi-automatic action with both automatic last-shot and manual bolt hold-open controls. Charging and ejection are on the right side. Capacity is 10+1 with the included 10-round magazine, and the rifle accepts most Colt 1911-pattern magazines.
The 16.5 inch blued barrel features Marlin's Micro-Groove rifling. Sighting is via an adjustable folding rear with stepped elevator and a ramped front sight with an orange insert. The receiver is factory drilled and tapped, and this example has a receiver scope base installed with a mounted tube-style red-dot sight from Japan offering selectable 4, 8, 12, and 16 MOA dots.
The stock is walnut-finished birch hardwood with a straight comb and a 14.0 inch length of pull. Marlin's horse-and-rider medallion buttplate is fitted, and only a rear sling swivel stud is installed.
Safety features include a manual safety; there is no loaded chamber indicator. The rifle has a fixed, integral magazine well that accepts a detachable box magazine, and it features a blued steel barrel paired with a matte black aluminum-alloy receiver.
