Product Description

Mauser K98k Mod. 98 Sporterized 8mm Mauser, byf 44 Receiver, 23.6 in Barrel, Side-Mount Base, Walnut Monte Carlo Stock

This sporterized Mauser K98k is built on a WWII-era byf 44 receiver from Mauser-Werke, Oberndorf, and retains German eagle/WaA acceptance marks. It features a drilled-and-tapped large-ring Mod. 98 action with a right-side quick-detach style side-mount base, a 23.6 in sporter-contour barrel with open sights, and a custom walnut stock with a Monte Carlo comb and shadow-line cheekpiece.

Bore Overall Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Bore Rifling: Fair Rifling - Worn rifling, slight loss of definition.

Specific Condition Notes: The safety lever shows a slight crack and may break with further use. The stock inletting for this action is poorly executed.

    What's Included
    • Mauser Mod. 98 K98k bolt-action rifle chambered in 8mm Mauser (sporterized configuration)
    • Installed right-side QD-style side-mount scope base

Built on the large-ring Mauser 98 action, this rifle maintains the controlled-round feed system and an internal 5-round staggered box magazine. The rear receiver bridge has been milled flat and drilled/tapped, eliminating the original charger hump/clip guide, so stripper-clip loading is not possible. The right-hand bolt is turned down with a round knob, and the bolt and shroud are polished in the white, contrasting the blued receiver and the largely in-the-white barrel with only traces of finish remaining.

The receiver is drilled and tapped on both the front ring and rear bridge, and a right-side side-mount base indexed "25" is installed. This base is of the quick-detach style, providing a period-appropriate sporter mounting solution without altering the barrel.

The barrel is a sporter contour measuring approximately 23.6 inches. Sighting is via a ramped front blade and a barrel-mounted open rear sight. The metalwork presents a worn blued finish on the receiver, while the barrel is largely in-the-white/bright steel with only traces of finish remaining.

The aftermarket walnut sporter stock features a Monte Carlo comb and a shadow-line cheekpiece for a classic sporting profile. A contrasting dark fore-end tip and a Pachmayr White Line recoil pad complete the setup, and length of pull measures 13.75 inches.

Markings include the wartime "byf 44" code on the receiver and "Mod. 98" on the left rail, with German eagle/WaA acceptance stamps reinforcing its WWII-era Oberndorf origin.
