The PR-57 uses a semi-automatic, short-recoil, rotary-barrel operating system with an internal hammer and double-action-only trigger. Dual recoil springs mounted beneath the barrel manage cycling. Field stripping is simplified by pressing the trigger forward to release for disassembly.
Its fixed, internal 20-round magazine is top-loading and designed to be charged via the enlarged top ejection/loading port. Charging can be done with 10-round stripper clips, and two rectangular witness windows at the heel of the grip provide quick visual confirmation of remaining rounds.
The cylindrical slide features wrap-around ribbed grasping bands for traction, threaded holes on the top of the slide, and a large top ejection/loading port. An integral single-slot accessory rail is molded into the dustcover for mounting compatible accessories.
The 4 inch barrel is made from 4140 steel with a 1:7 twist, and the polymer grip frame incorporates an internal steel chassis for rigidity. Kel-Tec's Gator Grip texture provides a secure hold, while fixed 3-dot iron sights consist of a front blade with a white insert and a square-notch rear with two white rectangles.
Markings include "MADE IN USA" and "PATENTS PENDING," with the manufacturing location indicated as Rock Springs, Wyoming on the serial plate. The pistol does not have a manual safety.
