Built on the robust N-frame with a six-shot, swing-out cylinder, the Model 58 was originally marketed to law enforcement agencies seeking the power of the .41 Magnum in a straightforward duty revolver. Its fixed rear sight is integral to the topstrap, paired with a ramped, serrated front blade for a clear service sight picture.
The revolver wears factory high-polish nickel plating over its steel frame and cylinder. The 4 inch barrel uses pinned-barrel construction typical of pre-1982 S&Ws and a heavy profile for added durability and balance.
Controls and handling features include a smooth-faced trigger and an exposed hammer with a checkered spur. The square-butt grip frame is fitted with checkered walnut Magna stocks bearing S&W medallions.
