Produced at Kokura Arsenal and marked with the stacked-cannonballs symbol, this Type 99 carries clear wartime identifiers alongside the "九九式" model marking on the barrel shank. These markings help place the rifle within its WWII Japanese service context and verify its origin.
The Short Rifle configuration features a 26 in barrel, a full-length upper handguard, and milled barrel bands. A bayonet lug is integral to the front band, and the rifle retains its folding monopod, long grasping groove in the fore-end, and a solid steel buttplate. An oval sling loop is positioned on the left side of the buttstock.
Its bolt-action system is cock-on-closing and uses a rear safety knob. Feeding is through a fixed internal 5-round magazine, consistent with Type 99 service configuration. A single gas-relief port is located on the left side of the receiver ring.
Sighting equipment includes a protected blade front sight with squared ears and a tangent/ladder rear sight with an elevation slide. The bore condition is good, and the rifling is well defined, supporting accurate performance for a rifle of its era.
