The Model 597 uses a straight blowback, semi-automatic action with twin tool-steel bolt guide rails that support consistent cycling. A last-shot hold-open and a detachable 10-round magazine provide practical handling at the range or in the field. Safety is managed by a cross-bolt control, and the sear and hammer feature nickel-Teflon plating.
The 20-inch carbon steel barrel is free-floated and button-rifled with a round, unthreaded muzzle and a matte finish. The bore condition is excellent, with sharp rifling. This configuration does not include iron sights, and the receiver’s left side is rollmarked "Remington MODEL 597."
The rifle wears a gray synthetic Monte Carlo-style stock with a pistol grip and a black buttplate, delivering a comfortable 14.0-inch length of pull. The receiver is die-cast aluminum alloy with a matte black anodized/coated finish, and the overall external finish is a matte dark gray that complements the stock color.
