This 1978 Smith & Wesson Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman is a classic N-frame .357 Magnum with a 6-inch heavy barrel and blued carbon-steel construction. It is the long-running -2 engineering revision, clearly stamped MOD. 28-2 on the yoke cut, and carries the correct Highway Patrolman barrel rollmarks. The Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman is built on the robust N-frame with a square-butt grip frame and a 6-inch heavy barrel featuring a short under-barrel lug. Its matte, non-checkered topstrap and blued carbon-steel finish give it the purposeful, duty-ready appearance associated with the series.
Sighting is set up with a pinned, serrated ramp front sight and a micrometer-adjustable rear sight. The action is double-action/single-action with a swing-out, six-shot fluted cylinder. Controls include a case-hardened trigger and a case-hardened hammer with a checkered spur for positive purchase.
Factory checkered wood Magna stocks with S&W medallions are fitted, appropriate to the N-frame square-butt configuration. Markings include the S&W circular logo, the MADE IN U.S.A. address block, SMITH & WESSON barrel rollmark, and the .357 CTG. HIGHWAY PATROLMAN barrel designation, with MOD. 28-2 on the yoke cut.
This example reflects the long-running -2 engineering revision from the 1970s era and was manufactured in 1978 in the United States. It has matching serial numbers on the yoke cut and butt, with additional assembly and inspection numbers on the yoke arm.
