Product Description

Danzig Gewehr 98 8mm Mauser, 29.1 in Barrel, WWI 1915 German M98 Long Rifle with Lange Visier Sights

This WW1 era Gewehr 98 was manufactured at the Danzig arsenal in 1915 and retains the features collectors look for on a German service long rifle. It is S-marked for the spitzer-bullet standard, built on the large-ring M98 action with an integral stripper-clip guide, and fitted with the long 29.1 inch barrel. Period-correct markings remain visible, including the crown over DANZIG 1915 crest and the left receiver rail marked "Gew. 98."

    Condition

Bore Overall Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Bore Rifling: Fair Rifling - Worn rifling, slight loss of definition.

Specific Condition Notes: The rifle shows handling and service marks consistent with its age. The bolt is not original to the firearm. The bore shows visible wear; see photos for close-ups.

    What’s Included
    • Danzig Gewehr 98 bolt-action rifle (1915)

Built during WWI at Danzig in 1915, this Gewehr 98 represents the standard German long rifle of the era. The receiver carries the crown over DANZIG 1915 crest and crowned inspection/acceptance stamps, with the left receiver rail correctly marked "Gew. 98." An S stamp on the receiver indicates the S-bore/spitzer standard adopted during the period.

The rifle uses the large-ring M98 action with an integral stripper-clip guide feeding a fixed internal 5-round magazine, loaded by a 5-round charger. It has the three-position flag safety and a straight bolt handle, matching the configuration of early-war production long rifles.

Its 29.1 inch barrel is paired with the Lange Visier rear sight and an unhooded barleycorn front sight. This long sighting arrangement is correct for the Gewehr 98 pattern and contributes to the rifle’s recognizable WW1 profile.

The hardwood stock has a straight wrist and oil finish, with bottom sling swivels and a unit/rack disc in the butt. The milled 98-pattern floorplate and trigger guard with front catch, plus the nose cap with 98-pattern bayonet lug and cleaning-rod channel, are present; a cleaning rod is installed. Receiver and bolt are left in-the-white/bright with patina, while other steel parts are blued, providing classic Gewehr 98 contrast.

Overall, this WW1 era German long rifle displays the defining features of a 1915 Danzig Gewehr 98, from its markings and S-standard receiver to its long barrel and Lange Visier sighting system.
