Made in Romania by Cugir under the Romtehnica export mark, this WUM-1 carries factory and importer rollmarks: "MADE IN ROMANIA BY ROMTEHNICA/CUGIR" and "INTERORDNANCE OF AMERICA L.P., MONROE, NC." These markings, together with the model designation, identify it as part of the late-1990s wave of Romanian AKM-pattern rifles brought into the U.S.
Construction follows the AKM pattern with a stamped, dimpled receiver and ribbed top cover. The rifle uses a semiautomatic, long-stroke gas piston system with a rotating bolt and a 90-degree straight gas block (AK-74–style). The 16.3-inch barrel is externally threaded, and no muzzle device is installed. The metal surfaces wear a matte parkerized finish.
Wood furniture includes a thumbhole stock finished in orange shellac with a rubber buttpad, plus a two-piece wood handguard with finger grooves. Length of pull measures 13.0 inches, offering a compact, traditional AK stock geometry.
Sighting is classic AKM: a protected front post paired with an AKM-type tangent rear sight. Chambered in 7.62x39, the rifle has a 30+1 capacity and ships with one 30-round polymer waffle-textured magazine.
Additional details that matter to collectors and enthusiasts include matching serial numerals observed on multiple components, a stamped receiver with dimples, and period-correct features that align with its late-1990s import era.
