The P229R pairs a compact 3.9 inch barrel with a milled stainless-steel slide engineered specifically for the pressures of .40 S&W (and .357 SIG in the platform), delivering a durable slide assembly with an external extractor and rear serrations. The slide and frame carry a matte black finish for low glare.
Its aluminum-alloy frame is hard-anodized and includes the P229R accessory rail. Controls are set up in the traditional SIG pattern with a decocker and an integral firing pin block, providing a decocking-only operating system in DA/SA. A spurred hammer and a smooth-faced, curved trigger complete the fire-control layout.
The pistol is equipped with fixed, dovetailed three-dot steel sights. The front sight uses a dot insert, and the rear sight has matching dot inserts, all set low for a clean sight picture and durability on a duty-style slide.
Ergonomics and handling are supported by two-piece textured polymer grip panels with SIG logos and a reversible magazine release. Capacity is 12+1 in .40 S&W, and this example includes three 12-round steel magazines noted with "MADE IN ITALY" markings. Exeter, New Hampshire production marking and the model’s long-standing law-enforcement service record round out its credentials.
