The M88A delivers a compact, all-steel build with a polished metal slide and frame, offering a solid feel and a clean, streamlined profile. The approximately 3.78-inch factory barrel and single-stack 9+1 capacity balance concealability with practical range performance.
It operates on a single-action, short-recoil, locked-breech system. Controls include a left-side button magazine release, a slide stop on the left, a slide-mounted manual safety, and a firing pin block. The spur hammer provides a positive interface for manual cocking.
Sight setup is straightforward and durable: a ramped front sight paired with a fixed notch rear. The slide top has anti-glare serrations to reduce reflections along the sighting plane.
Grip panels are smooth, varnished wood with Zastava medallion, complementing the polished steel finish. Original factory markings include the left slide legend "ZAVODI CRVENA ZASTAVA KRAGUJEVAC - JUGOSLAVIJA" and the right-side "9mm PARA" caliber marking. The slide and frame carry matching serial numbers.
