The SF-VI pairs a compact 2-inch stainless steel barrel with a shrouded ejector rod and a brushed/satin stainless frame and cylinder. Fixed sights are integral, with a ramped front and square-notch rear for a clean, snag-resistant profile. The factory black wraparound checkered rubber grips feature Colt medallions and a molded "COLT" banner.
It operates in double-action/single-action and includes a transfer-bar safety. The revolver uses a smooth-faced trigger and an exposed hammer with a checkered spur for confident manual cocking when desired.
Built in the United States during the 1990s, the SF-VI introduced modernized small-frame lockwork. Parts generally do not interchange with earlier D-frame Detective Specials (except grips), underscoring the internal updates Colt implemented for this series.
Produced only in 1995-1996 before the model was renamed DS-II, SF-VI-marked examples represent a short-run, identifiable sub-variant. This 1996 example falls within the era associated with the SV-prefix serial range and is factory-rated for .38 Special +P.
