Built at Jianshe Arsenal (Factory 26), this Type 53 represents the Chinese carbine variant of the Mosin-Nagant platform from the 1950s. The receiver ring bears the model script '五三式' along with Factory 26 codes and arsenal symbol, providing clear identification of origin and year.
The carbine configuration includes a 20.5 in steel barrel and blued steel receiver, fitted to a hardwood stock with a separate wooden handguard. It retains classic military features such as two spring-retained barrel bands, oval sling slots with metal escutcheons, and a steel buttplate.
Operation is via a bolt-action system with a straight bolt handle, round knob, and Mosin-pattern cocking piece. Feeding is from a fixed 5-round internal magazine with a floorplate latch. A steel cleaning rod is installed beneath the barrel.
Sighting is handled by a hooded front post and a tangent rear sight. This rifle also includes the integral side-folding cruciform spike bayonet. Matching serial numbers are observed on the receiver, bolt body, and magazine floorplate.
