The rifle retains its original Winchester takedown system, allowing the barreled front assembly to separate from the receiver group. It uses top ejection through the open-top receiver and an exposed hammer. The under-barrel tubular magazine with a removable inner tube and knurled follower head provides a listed 14-round capacity.
The 20-inch round barrel is fitted with open sights: a drifted front bead/blade and an open rear leaf with an elevator. Barrel markings include the Winchester address, multiple patent dates, and a clear 'MOD. 06' rollmark. The left side of the barrel is marked '22 SHORT – LONG OR LONG RIFLE,' confirming interchangeable .22 S/L/LR use.
As a Standard variant, this Model 06 has a straight buttstock and a grooved slide handle, both in wood. The receiver is blued steel, consistent with the rifle’s blued finish throughout. The stock is inlaid with the 'WINCHESTER — TRADE MARK REG. U.S. PAT.
