This Hawken is a percussion caplock with a right-hand lock and an external hammer featuring a checkered spur for secure control. The double set triggers provide a refined trigger release suitable for precise shooting with traditional muzzleloaders.
The 28" octagonal barrel is paired with open sights, including a dovetailed front blade and an adjustable rear open sight for practical sighting on the range or in the field. The breech uses an integral patent breech/bolster ("snail") with a clean-out screw, with the nipple threaded into the bolster, consistent with caplock operation.
The walnut half-stock includes a cheekpiece and classic brass furniture throughout, including the buttplate, forend/nose cap, ramrod thimbles, and wedge escutcheons. A wood ramrod with brass tips is included, and the length of pull measures 14.5.
Markings and embellishments add character: the barrel bears the Thompson Center Rochester, New Hampshire legend in .50 caliber, the lockplate and hammer show scroll decoration, and the brass patchbox lid carries the personalized engraving "M. D. Berg 1981." This is a Thompson Center reproduction of the Hawken pattern made in the United States.
