Product Description

Armi Sport 1861 Springfield .58 Percussion Rifle-Musket, 40 in Barrel, Armory Bright, Walnut Stock

This Armi Sport reproduction of the U.S. Springfield Model 1861 is a .58 caliber percussion muzzleloader built with a 40-inch round barrel and a full-length walnut stock. It features an armory bright finish and period-style markings, including a spread-eagle over "U.S." and "SPRINGFIELD" with "1861" on the lockplate, plus Italian proof marks. Iron sights with a two-leaf rear and a blade front complete the historical configuration.

    Condition

    Overall Condition: Poor condition.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: The hammer fails to lock to the rear and drops to the half-cock position, so it does not fire. There is rust on the buttplate. The bore appears to be in fairly good shape.

    What's Included
    • Original box
    • Leather sling (installed)

Made in Italy with Italian proof marks, this rifle-musket closely follows the Civil War-era pattern. The lockplate shows the spread-eagle over "U.S." and "SPRINGFIELD" with "1861" on the tail, and the buttplate tang is stamped "U.S." The middle band carries a "U" stamp, echoing period assembly conventions.

The 40-inch round barrel is secured by three steel bands and is marked "ARMI SPORT – ITALY / BLACK POWDER ONLY CAL. 58." A full-length tulip-head ramrod with a concave face stows beneath the barrel, as on originals.

Sighting is handled by iron sights: a blade front and a two-leaf flip-up rear with leaves numbered "5" and "8" on a fixed base. This setup mirrors the graduated rear sight pattern used on service rifle-muskets of the era.

The stock is a full-length, one-piece walnut with an oil-finished surface, paired with an armory bright/white metal finish. A leather sling is installed, complementing the rifle’s field-ready configuration.

The rifle uses a percussion muzzleloading action with an external hammer. It is chambered in .58 with a 1:65 twist and a single-shot capacity. Length of pull measures 13.25 inches.
