Built by Zastava in Yugoslavia, the M48 uses the intermediate-length Mauser 98 action and is chambered in 8mm Mauser. This example carries the M-48 model marking on the receiver ring.
Mitchell's Mausers designated this rifle as Collector Grade. It retains matching serial numbers on the receiver, bolt, and stock, includes a bright-polished bolt typical of Mitchell's presentation rifles, and is accompanied by a Mitchell's Certificate of Authenticity and box that match the rifle's serial.
The rifle features a 23.25 in barrel and a 5-round internal magazine with stripper-clip feed. Sights are a hooded post front and a tangent rear with metric graduations. A bayonet lug and cleaning rod are installed. The safety is a flag safety.
Metal parts wear a blued finish, paired with a full-length hardwood stock and handguard. Stock details include a side sling slot and a smooth, cupped steel buttplate without a takedown hole. Length of pull measures 13.0 in. Markings include the national crest and Cyrillic 'ФНРЈ / ПРЕДУЗЕЋЕ 44' factory legend, along with import marks 'ZASTAVA YUGOSLAVIA' and 'MMC S.A. CA'.
