This Swedish Mauser m/96 long rifle uses the cock-on-opening small-ring Mauser action with controlled-round feed and a non-rotating claw extractor. It retains the charger guide for 5-round stripper clips feeding an internal 5-round box magazine, with 5+1 carry. A three-position wing safety tops off the classic Mauser operating system.
The rifle is outfitted with m/96 pattern iron sights: a square post front sight and a tangent rear sight with sliding cursor and folding ladder. The long 29.1 inch step-profile barrel and full-size configuration deliver the traditional handling characteristics of the model.
Stock furniture is the full-length military pattern with a straight wrist, finger-groove fore-end, separate top handguard, and a brass stock disk. Two barrel bands are fitted; the bayonet mounts to a lug integral to the nosecap/muzzle cap at the muzzle, and the forward sling attachment is on the rear (inner) barrel band. The nosecap/muzzle cap integrates the bayonet lug and cleaning-rod boss and does not carry a swivel. Length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
Markings include the receiver ring Swedish crest and "CARL GUSTAFS STADS GEVÄRSFAKTORI 1909" legend, along with Swedish crown proofs. An import stamp reads "M96 SWEDEN 6.5x55 CAI ST ALB VT." The metal is blued while the bolt remains in the white, consistent with period practice. Numerous parts show matching last-three digits "665." Made in Sweden.
