Koishikawa Tokyo Arsenal Type 38 Long Rifle 6.5x50mm Japanese, 31.4 in Barrel, No-Series, c. 1912–1913
This Koishikawa (Tokyo) Arsenal Type 38 long rifle is a no-series Tokyo production from circa 1912–1913, chambered in 6.5x50mm Japanese. It carries the Tokyo stacked-cannonball arsenal mark, Japanese Type 38 model characters on the receiver, inspector/kana marks, and a ground/defaced Imperial chrysanthemum crest. A straight bolt with large knurled safety knob and dual gas-escape ports are present; the sliding bolt dust cover is not present. Made in Japanese.
Configured as the long rifle, it features a 31.4 inch barrel and an overall length of approximately 50 inches. The rifle retains its blued steel receiver and hardwood two-piece spliced buttstock with diagonal joint, long grasping grooves, and a short upper handguard. A nose cap with bayonet lug and bottom sling swivels at the front band and stock toe complete the service configuration.
The action is the Type 38 cock-on-closing bolt with a Mauser-style non-rotating extractor and a straight bolt handle. No sliding bolt dust cover is fitted, and the receiver ring has dual gas-escape ports. Feeding is through a fixed internal 5-round magazine, loaded via 5-round stripper clips. Sights are iron: a fixed front sight with protective ears and a tangent ladder rear sight.
Notable details on this example include a mismatched bolt (bolt root numbered differently from the receiver), a large knurled safety knob, and a length of pull of 13.0 inches. Markings include the Tokyo/Koishikawa stacked-cannonball arsenal symbol, Japanese Type 38 receiver characters, and surrounding inspector/kana stamps. The crest area on the receiver has been ground/defaced as noted.
