The ZKW 465 uses a mini-Mauser controlled-round-feed system with a full-length external claw extractor and two opposed front locking lugs. The receiver is steel, and the rifle retains its factory 22.75 inch barrel for the .22 Hornet chambering.
Proofed in 1963, it bears the Czech rampant-lion proof and a "63" date stamp. The receiver is marked "ZBROJOVKA BRNO NÁRODNÍ PODNIK," reflecting state-enterprise production, and the rifle is export-marked "MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA." This model is regarded as an antecedent to the later CZ mini-Mauser Fox/527 series.
Sighting equipment includes a ramped front blade with hood grooves and a barrel-mounted open rear sight. The front sight hood is not present. A Bushnell variable riflescope with Rainguard HD and a duplex reticle is installed in two rings, with rings and bases fitted to the receiver.
The hardwood stock features a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, rounded fore-end, and sling swivel studs. It is uncheckered and finished with a black buttplate. Length of pull is 14.0 inches. Controls include a two-position, right-side sliding safety. Feeding is via a detachable steel box magazine, with a capacity of 5 rounds.
